Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy is usually done on patients who are unable to swallow anything, have problems with their appetite, or are unable to take in enough nutrition needed by their body. PEG is a tube that is inserted directly into the stomach to provide all the necessary nutrients and medications directly into the stomach, thereby bypassing the mouth and esophagus. During procedure, an endoscope is used to help in the creation of the channel to place the PEG tube. Proper care and cleaning instructions would be provided to care for the feeding tube and to keep it from getting infected.
